Rules need a default timeout, and a way to veto them. Currently our house rules state:
For example: Curse of the Bird Guide has no stated maximum time limit for the curse to apply. As such it defaults to a 60 minute timeout in a large game. The seekers can choose to veto it in exchange for 90 minutes time bonus.
Curse of the Hidden Hangman has a maximum timeout of 30 minutes in a large game (we're not counting the time in which hangman is played), and so the players can veto in exchange for a 45 min time bonus.
Curse of the Jammed Door applies for 3 hours in a large game. This still times out after 3 hours. It can be vetoed in exchange for 4.5 hours in time bonuses.
We need to add to this that cards that are based on a number of events happening are exempted from the timeout, but the veto still applies using the maximum timeout applicable.
For example: Curse of the Void applies to the next three questions, and this will not time out. It can be vetoed in exchange of 90 minutes' time bonus in a large game.
Cards that apply "for the rest of the round" should not be time limited, as that is what is stated on the card. They should also not be able to be vetoed in exchange for a time bonus. For example, the Curse of Spotty Memory
