It does not apply to lifts.
It does apply to fare gates.

It does not apply to lifts. It does apply to fare gates.

I'm not convinced by some of these. Sometimes you can enter a station through a gate that is uncovered, or no gate exists at all, and sometimes the entry way is through an escalator, or lift, e.g. 'S Hertogenbosch.

An example of Köln Messe/Deutz platform 11.

Having it apply to fare gates would mean that when entering, say, Arnhem station, we'd have to roll three times: one to enter the station, one to get though the fare gates, and one to get onto the train. Is this what we want?

Our rewording needs to apply to getting on transport.

In general, it should not apply to things that are not game-specific. If I want to go to a supermarket to get food, I shouldn't have to roll. This would also extend to things like waiting rooms and lifts.

Maybe we should word the lift thing such that lifts that are merely for getting between floors are fine, but they cannot be used to bypass a roll if such a roll would be required to take the stairs.

Stairs or lifts that are direct entrances to a platform should require a roll. I'm thinking of Köln Messe/Deutz platform 9/10

Current definition:

Curse of the Jammed Door

For the next [S 0.5] [M 1] [L 3] hours, whenever the seekers want to pass through a doorway into a building, business, train, or other vehicle, they must first roll 2 dice. If they do not roll a 7 or higher, they cannot enter that space (including through other doorways). Any given doorway can be re-attempted after [S 5] [M 10] [L 15] minutes.

Casting Cost: Discard two cards.

Rule Book Notes: Seekers must roll two d6 dice. Dice can only be rolled to enter a doorway once the doorway is visible to the seekers. For example, if you are attempting to roll to enter a train, you cannot roll the dice before the train arrives; you must be able to see the train door first. Doorways within a building that lead to other parts of the same building, such as a store within a train station, do not need to pass a dice check. If there is any reasonable dispute as to whether something counts as a separate building, err on the side of doing a dice check. If the curse expires while a doorway is on cooldown, that cooldown also immediately expires.

As we've discussed in a different chat, "entering a station" in Germany often involves passing no doors at all, just walking onto a platform at street level or at most down some stairs. Do we count this as a doorway, or are stations without buildings just not buildings?

I would say, no physical door, no roll, lifts are functionally treated the same as stairs. Gate barriers are not doors, they are fucked up indications of poor public transport company ettiquette...

In the case of den bosch station, going from the bus station to the train, the only time you would need to roll is for the door to the train.

Anything more strict than this risks making things Not Fun. If that means that someone can walk round to the back of the station to enter via an entrance with no door, good on em.

The approved version is that if it's not a door, it doesn't count. If the station does not have a door to get in, then we do not have to roll. If the players know of a route that gets them into the station without going through a door, then that is fine.

Fare gates are not doors.

Roll once per building, unless it's game-relevant.

A vehicle is effectively a different building.

Only game-relevant movements count. No need to roll to go to the toilet. Or to buy a drink in a station shop. But if the current curse requires you to purchase something, then at that point you need to roll to get into the shop.
